Mary and Joseph

Joseph with Mary on the donkey is one of those sculptures that gets better with age and I sometimes wonder how lucky I was to make it. I started out this piece not knowing what it would be other than a sculpture to do with Christmas. After pushing the clay around, I started seeing someone on something. As it became clearer I said, “That must be Mary on a donkey, and that other person over there must be Joseph!”
