The Veil was Rent
Date
2002
Material
created in oil based clay, cast in bronze.
Dimensions
23 inches high, 6 inches wide, 9 inches deep.
The Veil was Rent refers to the passage in the bible which tells of the veil of the temple being rent during the crucifixion of Jesus. The model was a very muscular male dancer who was able to hold this pose for me.
The piece was part of a Phoenix, Arizona play, called Cry Tiger, a play about the life of a sculptor. My pieces were used as the work of the sculptor. The sculpture was made to look partially finished, in oil based clay, so the actor could pretend to work on it. During one part of the play the sculptor, in frustration, pulls the head off the piece, much to the distress of on lookers!
