My youngest daughter, Tia, modeled for this while I was doing an outdoor demo for an art show. Sculpting outside in the elements with the wind and sun beating down on your clay, it dies quick. Tia was a trooper and was well motivated by the $20 I promised to give her when it was over. Year completed: 2008 Material: terracotta Dimensions: 18 inches high, 8 inches wide, 7 inches deep Availability: available in bronze upon request, enquire for details...

This Native American girl modeled at a drawing session where they have the models dress in some interesting way. The native costume she was wearing was contemporary Native American, Kiowa tribe. Even though I only had two hours, I was well motivated to get a nice piece and worked as fast as I could. I was happy when I was finished and it looked a lot like her. Year completed: 2011 Material: terracotta Dimensions: 21.5 inches high, 9 inches wide, 7 inches deep Availability: available in bronze upon request, enquire for details...

Sculpting a person with a high percentage of body fat was more challenging than I thought as there are many curves that change, shift and interrelate to each other in a way that is not always as easy as it first seems. Year completed: 2011 Material: terracotta Dimensions: 9 inches high Availability: enquire...

Yoko modeled for this one too. I had been sculpting from her quite a bit so doing this sculpture was not so hard and I could probably have done a lot of it without looking at her that much, though having her there made it that much better. I was able to get it pretty much in one session. Year completed: 2006 Material: terracotta Dimensions: 13 inches high, 6 inches wide, 8 inches deep Availability: enquire...

All of the sculptures in this section (In One Session Sculptures) were done in one sitting, between 1.5 and 2.5 hours long (with breaks for the model). The challenge of this method of sculpting is one must sculpt quickly, get right to the point, and not to deviate too much from the pose as it is presented. It is also a good teacher of quick observation skills and instinctive sculpting. The reward is, if things go well, in two hours you can walk away with a nice sculpture and good feelings, or, if things don’t work out, you can always smash it and try again the next session. Year...

Kensi was a BYU student that modeled for us. She was not too thin and so gave some good poses that are perfect for a sculptor looking for more rounded forms. This pose would make a great larger, more refined and finished piece, but I was lucky to have her model the 1.5 hours she did as her back was sore at the end. Year completed: 2011 Material: terracotta Dimensions: 6 inches high, 7.5 inches wide, 7.5 inches deep Availability: enquire...

Guss was a young girl that modeled for us. She was an actual cowgirl, wearing her riding clothes. She had just gotten back not so many days earlier from a round up, helping a neighbor bring in their cattle.
